George Stevenson, 79, of Dawsonville, died Nov. 25, 2014.

Born March 3, 1935 to the late Dutch and Alice Stevenson, he had been a resident of Dawson County for the past five years, but had lived in the North Georgia area since 1977.

A member of Etowah River Church of Christ, he was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne from 1951 to 1953.

Starting as an apprentice in 1965, he worked in the steel fabrication industry all over the United States until his retirement in 2009.

A wonderful storyteller, Mr. Stevenson was also an avid football fan and "political junkie."

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joanne Stevenson of Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Betty Stevenson of Dawsonville, Richard Stevenson, Robert and Gayla Stevenson Minot, all of Minot, N.D.; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberley and Vance Hendon of Cumming, Nancy and Randy Patrick, Carol and Mark Mayhew, Tracie Manweiler, Brianna and Rico Vlastelic, all of Dawsonville, Cynthia and Richard Thomas of Minot, N.D.; four brothers; six sisters; 15 grandsons; 14 granddaughters; 24 great-grandsons; 13 great-granddaughters; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Nov. 30 at Etowah River Church of Christ with Kenny Brannan officiating.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
