George Marshall Stanford, 88, of Gainesville (Forsyth County), died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.

  

He was the oldest living member and a deacon of Salem Baptist Church.

  

Mr. Stanford was a World War II Veteran and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

  

His wife of 55 years, Louvenia Stanford; parents, W.L. and Gertie Stanford; brother, Hoyt, Edward, Marcus, Adron and Carroll; sister, Mary Fields, preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Vicki Stanford of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gerald Orr of Gainesville; grandchildren, Lori and Michael Holbrooks, Rodney and Tamela Stanford and Bradley and Brandon Orr, all of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Kaycee, Payton and Sydney Holbrooks and Ben and Madie Stanford; brothers and sister-in-law, Gene Stanford of Doraville and Cloyse and JoAnn Stanford of Dawsonville; sister and brother-in-law, Mozelle and Webb McGeehee of Cumming; sisters-in-law, Estlene Stanford and Mary Helen Stanford, both of Cumming; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Pugh of Dawsonville, John and Patty Barker, Maxine and Tommy Phillips, Carol Roper, Dorothy Nell Barker; all of Gainesville; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Donnie Nix, Michael Millwood and Michael Holbrooks officiating.

  

Interment followed in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Justin Castleberry, 7910 Jot Em Down Road, Gainesville, GA 30506.

  

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
