George Boerner

George Boerner, 91, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010.

  

Born March 1, 1918 in Kenosha, Wis. to the late George and Rose Boerner, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 42 years, having moved from Atlanta.

  

Mr. Boerner was a retired Captain with Delta Airlines with over 25 years of service.

  

After his retirement he enjoyed flying his Ultralite plane, spending time on the lake and athletics. He celebrated his 90th birthday by flying a Glider and Hang gliding.

  

His wife of 63 years, Frances Boerner; and brothers, Robert Boerner and Gib Boerner, also preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his children, Keith and Ann Boerner of Ellijay, Lee and Jay Kelly of Dawsonville, Janet and Ron Mendola of Atlanta; sisters, Irene Lourigan of Greenville, S.C., Joan Lyman of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Richard Boerner of San Antonia, Texas; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

  

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Lake Lanier Association, 615-F Oak Street, Suite 100, Gainesville, GA 30501 or to any environmental charity.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
