Gary "Durock" Hicks, 56, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 12, 2014.

Born Sept. 23, 1958, Mr. Hicks lived his entire life in Dawson and Lumpkin counties. He owned and operated Georgia Waste and enjoyed panning for gold and camping. A highlight of his life was spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Gary was of the Baptist faith.

His mother, Vina C. Hicks; sisters, Estell Jett, Kathy Robbins, Robin Hicks; brothers, Rual Ingram, Roy Ingram and Danny Hicks, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his father, Robert Hicks of Dahlonega; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Gentry, Gladys Bruce, Caroline Fauscett, Patty and Bill McDaniel, all of Dawsonville, Barbara and Charles Brown of Dahlonega, Betty Sue Hicks of Elberton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Hicks, Ricky and Diane Hicks, all of Dahlonega, Jimmy Hicks of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Lemley and Lee Ayers officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
