Frances Harben Thurmond, 84, of Dawsonville, died May 11, 2012.

Born Feb. 26, 1928, to the late John Silvey and Flara Harben, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.

Frances was a former business teacher in the Dawson County School System, served a period of time as Dawson County Clerk of Courts, was a former secretary to the Dawson County School Superintendent and retired as an administrative assistant with the Georgia School Boards Association.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville.

Her brother, John S. Harben Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Lee of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Vance and Barbie Thurmond of Dawsonville; sister, Bernice Harben of Dawsonville; sister-in-law, Myrtle Harben of Cumming; grandchildren, Jonathan and Kristi Lee, Tracie and Rob Morris, Michelle and Travis Millett, David Lee, Kyle Thurmond, Kasey Thurmond, Karley Thurmond; great-grandchildren, Carter Morris, Paige Morris, Cami Lee, Brooke Lee, Spencer Lee, Peter Millet, Benjamin Millet; nieces, Kathy Harben, Lori Gore; nephews, John Harben III and James Wiley; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 15 at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville with Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Michael Chester, 40 Horseshow Drive, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
