Everett Bennett Sr., 84, of Cumming, died Jan. 26, 2014.

He was born Nov. 18, 1929 in Cunard, Fayette County, W.Va., to Omer Bennett Sr. and Edith Cecil Bennett. Everett was a Korean War Veteran and retired from the Army after 21 years of service to his country.

He then worked 17 years with the U.S. Army in the housing division at Fort Bragg, N.C. and retired from there in 1992.

He and his wife, Susie, moved to Cumming in May of 1996 to be near their family.

Everett was a member of North Lanier Baptist Church on Atlanta Highway in Cumming. He was also an honor guard with Veterans Alliance and participated in military funerals for veterans in Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin, Hall and Cherokee counties in Georgia.

His wife, Susie M. Parker Bennett; parents; brothers, William A. Bennett, Herman Lee Bennett, Thomas Gordon Bennett, Charles E. Bennett, George Franklin Bennett, Omer Bennett Jr., John Cecil Bennett; and his sister, Helen Marie Bennett, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, Everett and Mary Gaither Bennett Jr. of Cumming, Jimmy Arlen and Carla Rackley James of Winson; daughter, Connie Marie James Killian Brown and her husband Joe E. Brown of Cullman, Ala.; grandchildren, Michelle Donna Killian and John Phillip Gray, Mimi Sue Killian Rasche and David Rasche, Kelly Marie Killian Kahle and Steve Kahle, Teresa Elizabeth Killian Carden and Forrest Carden, Shannon Marie James, Chad Lance James and Sara Elizabeth Vogel Jams, Leslie Marie Bennett Miller and Christopher Michael Miller, Arrina LeAnn Bennett Brasher and Benjamin Allen Brasher; great-grandchildren, Michael Killian Gray, Tyler John Gray, Morgan Brittany Gray, Kyle James Rasche, Megan Elizabeth Rasche, Lukas Daniel Kahle, Sydney Marie Kahle, Joseph Steven Kahle, Hailey Grace Miller, Katherine Joy Miller, Brayden Alexander Miller, Annabelle Nicole Brasher, Luke Everett Brasher, Hailey Elizabeth James; sisters, Norma Jean Bennett Hawley of Plymouth, Mich., Patricia Ann Bennett Kelley of Jackson; brother, Freddie Carlos Bennett of Fayetteville, W.Va.; sisters-in-law, Regina Bennett of Columbus, Phyllis Bennett of Jackson, Mich., Linda Bennett of Grass Lake, Mich.; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with the Rev. John Lay officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Lanier Baptist Church and the Veterans Alliance.
