Evelyn Hamer Hicks, 85, of Dawsonville, died Feb. 28, 2012.

Born Nov. 26, 1926, in Concord, N.C. to the late Arthur and Pearl Spry, she had lived in Dawson County for more than a year, having moved from Jasper.

Mrs. Hicks was a registered nurse who was formerly employed by Pickens County Public Health.

Along with her first husband, she owned and operated restaurants which included Nolen's Restaurant in Roswell, Townhouse Restaurant in Jasper and Nolen's Cafeteria in Gainesville.

She was a member of the Tate Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her first husband, Nolen D. Hamer.

Survivors include her husband, Pascal Hicks of Dallas; children, Carole and Bill Pittman of Dawsonville, Nolen and Peggy Hamer of Roswell; sister and brother-in-law, Arthurine and Richard Hammon of Kannapolis, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher and Sally Hamer, Traci and Rob Jones, Cassie and Matthew Marini; great-grandchildren, Ruthie Jones, Chase Jones; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. March 2 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Jim Gaines officiating.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
