Eugene Evans, 86, of Cumming, died Nov. 3, 2014.

Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was the oldest Deacon of New Harmony Baptist Church.

He loved his church and church family. Gene loved working and had almost 43 years of service with the Forsyth County Board of Education driving a school bus, he was owner of Evans Paving for 40 plus years and enjoyed his farm, raising cattle and chickens.

His parents, Roscoe and Maude Evans; brothers and sisters, Roy Evans, Toy Evans, R.W. Evans, Annelle Grogan, Irene Nelson; sister-in-law, Naomi Croy; and a brother-in-law, Jim Echols, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sarah Evans of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Ruth Evans of Cumming; grandchildren, Shane and Mandy Evans of Cumming; great-granddaughters, Lauren, Kristy and Stephen McPherson of Cumming; great-granddaughter, Kadance; great-grandson, Camden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Louise Evans, Bob and Sue Evans; brothers-in-law, Robert Echols of South Carolina, Bobby Croy of Cumming; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 6 at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Purcell, Jeff Wilkie, Joey Wallace and Benny Grogan officiating. Interment followed at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers were accepted or memorial donations were requested to be made to New Harmony Baptist Church, c/o Jack Roper, 4578 Aaron Sosebee Road, Cumming, GA 30040.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
