Ernestine Looper, 90, of Hiawassee, formerly of Dawsonville, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.

  

Born Dec. 11, 1918 in Dawson County to the late Grady and Annie Scott, Mrs. Looper lived a number of years in Atlanta, Dania, Fla., Forest Park and Florissant, Mo. before returning to Dawson County after her marriage to former State Representative Max R. Looper.

  

She remained here until 2003 when she moved to Hiawassee due to declining health. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many Dawson County residents.

  

Her husbands, Max R. Looper and Robert C. "Clyde" Shattles; and, son, Randolph Scott "Randy" Shattles, preceded her in death.

  

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Margaret Shattles of Hiawassee; grandchildren, Jay Shattles of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Scott and Cristy Shattles of Young Harris, Chris and Allison Shattles of Fort Mill, S.C.; six great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Vicki Looper of Cumming; Randy Looper of Gainesville, Pam Haselton of Alpharetta and Melody Collins of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Scott officiating. Interment followed in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Regency Hospice, P.O. Box 494, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
