Elmer I. Hill

Elmer I. Hill, 87, of Dawsonville, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009.  Born in Queens County, N.Y., he lived in Dawson County since 2002 having moved from Glen Cove, N.Y.  Mr. Hill was a truck driver for Texaco and retired after 32 years of service.   He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Royal Order of the Moose, a member of the V.F.W., and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he served in the Pacific theater.  His wife, Lorraine Hill, preceded him in death.  Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Harry Gembs of Dawsonville; nieces, Linda Reedy, of Pen Argyl, Pa., Diane Syzalba of Elmont, N.Y.; nephew, Wallace Bumiller of West Islip, N.Y.; various other relatives also survive.  Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Gravitt officiating.   The remains were taken to New York for interment in Greenfield Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 100 Lumpkin Campground Road South, Dawsonville, GA 30534.  Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
