Elizabeth “Liz” Sanford, 73, of Dawsonville, died May 15, 2011.

Born March 2, 1938 in Detroit, Mich. to the late Homer and Gertie Summerour, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Sanford retired from Tyson Foods after 26 years of service and was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Her sister, Mary Ann Summerour; and brothers, Jim Summerour, Marcus Summerour and William Summerour, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Sanford of Dawsonville; children, Judy and Phil Anderson, Gertie and Rory Puckett, Stephen and April Sanford, all of Dawsonville, Jenny and Scott Mason, Daniel Sanford, all of Gainesville, Trish and Steve Samples of Cumming; sisters, Martha Jo Rush of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mattie Summerour, Jan Oakley, both of Atlanta, Dolores Summerour of California; brother, Cecil Summerour of Dawsonville; nine grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. May 18 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Rodney Pilcher and Corey Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
