Dennis G. Richardson, 68, of Dahlonega, died Feb. 2, 2014.

Born Oct. 20, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., to the late Gene and Vernetta Richardson, he had lived in Dahlonega for the past 10 years, having moved from Griffin.

Dennis was a retired civil engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation with 34 years of service. For the past 10 years, he was the office manager for Amicalola Propane in Dawsonville, which is owned by his son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Kristin.

Affectionately known as "Poppa," he was a loving husband who was also very devoted to his sons and especially his grandchildren.

Dennis was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, gardener and was an accomplished inventor.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean Anglin Richardson of Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Cathy Richardson of Lawrenceville, Jon Richardson and his fiancé, Lisa Harn of Griffin, Matt and Kristen Richardson of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jordan Richardson, Donovan Richardson, Maya Richardson, William Richardson, Maddie Richardson, Mary Anglin Richardson, Reagan Richardson, Genevieve Richardson, Isaac Horn; special friend, Evelyn King; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Connie Richardson of Belle Rive, Ill.; sister, Denise Richardson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Schofield and Richard Broom officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
