David C. Garrett Jr., 89, of Dawson County died June 2at his residence in the Chestatee Community of Dawson County.  He had lived there for 13 years having moved here from Atlanta. 

A graduate of Furman University and the Georgia Tech College of Management, Mr. Garrett was the CEO of Delta Airlines from 1978 to 1987 and carefully guided Delta through that important period of transformation.

He attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Dawsonville.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, the Rev. Eleana Garrett; children, David Clyde Garrett III,  Dr. Virginia Galvin, and Charles T. Garrett; step children Dan McMillian, Roy McMillian and Greg McMillian; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. June 12 in the Delta Air Lines Hanger Two, a fitting place for the man who cared deeply for all the people who worked at Delta and for the maintenance crews who labored there with care. 

The preachers and the entire family including all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were preceded to the hanger by The Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia on their motorcycles. The Rev. Dr. Jim Choomack and the Rev. O. Greg Moore conducted the service.

The family requests donations made in David’s honor be sent to Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, 3675 Crestwood Parkway, Suite 370, Duluth, GA 30096.
