Daniel Fredolf Montgomery, 63, of Rome, died May 29, 2013.

He was born in Detroit, Jan. 10, 1950, the son of the late William Jack and Edna May Raita Montgomery.

He married Linda Carol Thibodeau May 22, 1971 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Warren.

Dan attended St. Johns Lutheran Church in Capac, where he was a youth leader for 17 years, and Mount Berry United Methodist Church in Rome.

Dan, also known as "Monty" to his work friends, was a 1968 Lincoln High School graduate. He worked nearly 30 years for the Detroit News and then Free Press, before moving out of state.

Dan worked for a few other newspapers across the country before his employment with The Times of Gainesville, which he retired from in 2012 due to health reasons.

He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda; two children, Allison and Grayston Ulery of Georgia and Eric and Amanda Montgomery of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren, Evelyn, Joseph, Johnathon, Maris, Sylvia, Oliver and Mabel; sister, Kathy and Mark Asaro of Attica; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held in Michigan.
