Clayton D. Holbrook, 84, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 following a short illness.

Born in Forsyth County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. Mr. Holbrook worked in residential construction, did poultry and cattle farming  and had a great love for fishing.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mazelle Pugh Holbrook; daughter, Martha Sue Holbrook; parents, Fred and Ida Holbrook; brothers, Hoyt Holbrook, Fred Holbrook, Jr. and Marcus Holbrook.

Survivors include his children, Charlotte and Bill Moore of Alpharetta, Jimmy and Sheila Holbrook, Elaine and Charlie Carter, all of Dawsonville; sister, Gwen Koehler of Kings Mountain, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Holbrook of Ft. Mill, S.C., Lois Holbrook of Hoschton, Inez Pugh and Lola Pugh, both of Dawsonville; brothers-in-law, James Pugh, George Pugh, Darrell Stewart, all of Dawsonville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Ruel Martin, Stephen Davis and Jerry Frazier officiating. Interment followed in Sawnee View Gardens.

Flowers were accepted as were donations made to Liberty Baptist Church, c/o Michael Woody, 311 Woody Hill Circle, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
