Charles B. Finley, 64, of Dawsonville, died July 4, 2012.
Born July 5, 1947 to the late Charlie and Dorothy Finley, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.
Charles graduated from Dawson County High School, the University of Georgia and taught in the Dawson County School System for 42 years.
He was a founding member and former president of the Dawson County Jaycees.
The club was instrumental in establishing the Mountain Moonshine Festival and the Empty Stocking Fund, now known as KARE for Kids.
Mr. Finley authored a book, "Yesterday Once More: A History Of The Schools Of Dawson County," another on the history of Dawson County basketball and was working on a book on the history of Dawson County.
He was a certified master gardener, a member of the Dawson County Historical and Genealogical Society, retired teachers association, Gideon's International and an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
He was a deacon of Goshen Baptist Church. He had held many positions in the church.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 31 years, Kathy C. Finley of Dawsonville; son, Benjamin Finley of Dawsonville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sandra Carlyle of Lenoir City, Tenn., Boyd and Terry Carlyle of Pendergrass, Wayne and Paulette Carlyle of Lula; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doris and Gene England, Betty and Ray Rogers, all of Gainesville; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 15 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Casey Martin, Russell Burt and Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
