Cecil J. McFerrin, 91, of Aiken, S.C., died Tuesday, April 28, 2009.

  

Born Dec. 1, 1917 in Ninety Six, S.C., Cecil was the youngest child of Arch McFerrin and Zoe Ella Owen McFerrin.

  

He grew up on the family homeplace and spent much time working the family farm with his brother Earl and sisters, Ethel, Eva, Bessie and Ruby.

  

He was a 1934 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1936 graduate of Greenwood College of Commerce. He also attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia and worked for the Veterans Administration before enlisting in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war, Mr. McFerrin began a long and distinguished banking career.

  

He was a  member of St. John's Methodist Church in Aiken. He enjoyed travel with his wife Jean, golfing and growing a variety of vegetables in his home garden.

  

Survivors include his wife, Jean Tribble McFerrin; two children, Earl A. McFerrin and wife Susan of Concord, N.C., Holly McFerrin Huber and husband Crist of Dawsonville; two grandchildren, Michael Bradley Huber and Morgan Cecile Huber, both of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 1 at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Aiken, S.C. with the Dr. George Howle officiating.
