Obituaries

Cecil Evans, 91, of Dawsonville died Oct. 26, 2017.

Born March 12, 1926 in Dawson County to the late Waldo and Lena Cantrell, she lived a number of years in Gilmer County before returning to Dawson County in 1960.  A homemaker at her death, she enjoyed travel, especially to the mountains, country and gospel music.

Cecil was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Her husband of 67 years, Roy L. Evans; sisters, Frankie Cantrell, Frances Payne; and brother, Larry Cantrell, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Mary and Hubert Bailey of Dawsonville, Gary and Regina Evans of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Carol Anne Bailey, Beth and Jason Hamby, Sam Bailey; great-grandchildren, Marley Hamby, Luke Hamby; sisters-in law, Genell Cantrell, Joyce Evans, both of Ellijay.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Hamby, Rev. Scott Chastain and Rev. Jimmy Chester officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at New Hope Baptist Church.

Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
