Capt. James M. Thorn Sr., 77, of Gainesville, died Jan. 25, 2015.

Born Aug. 28, 1937 in Sikeston, Mo., to the late John Monroe and Sadie Marie Thorn, he had lived in Hall County for the past 10 years, having moved from Cumming.

He retired as captain with the Roswell Police Department with more than 30 years of service.

His brothers, Waylon Thorn and Johnny Thorn, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, James M. Thorn Jr. of Dawsonville, Eric M. Thorn of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Timothy Mitchell Thorn, Dana Katelyn Midori Thorn; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Burgess officiating.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
