Authorities say that an inmate in custody at the Dawson County Detention Center has died and state officials have been called in to investigate the death.

Calvin W. Jenkins, 77, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 1, 2015.

Born Jan. 21, 1938 in DeKalb County, he had lived in Dawson County since 2000, having moved from Forsyth County.

For more than 30 years he was employed by various golf clubs including the Atlanta Athletic Club, Horseshoe Bend, Lanier Islands and Brookfield West.

Calvin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville.

His wife, Marion Jenkins, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, Allen Keith Jenkins of Dawsonville, Mark W. Jenkins of Breaux Bridge, La.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at noon Dec. 7 at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville with the Dr. Jim Gaines officiating.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
