Betty Long, 63, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness.

 

Born in Lumpkin County, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.

 

Mrs. Long retired from the Dawson County School System after over 30 years of service. She held many positions in the school system, but for the past several years she was the secretary to the Dawson County High School counselor.

 

She was a member of Juno Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Clyde and Irene Fortner; sister, Sue Raven; brother, Edward Fortner.

 

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Clayton Long of Dawsonville; children, Greg Long, Shane and Amy Long, Holly and Keith Burt, all of Dawsonville, Kimberly and Joe Tounzen of Ocean Springs, Miss.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jimmy Hamby of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Wilburn and Josalin Fortner of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jessica Long, Cody Long, Travis Long, Juli Long, Lillian Long; various other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services were Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Juno Baptist Church with Revs. Dennis Bottoms, Tim Biddy and Leonard W. Ridings officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers donations were requested to be made to Juno Baptist Church, 3185 Elliott Family Pkwy., Dawsonville, GA 30534.

 

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
