Barbara A. Callaway

Barbara A. Callaway died May 24, 2018, in Hendersonville, N.C.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1937, in Lumpkin County, to William Price Anderson and Estelle Crawford Anderson. She attended Dawson County Schools and married William N. “Bill” Callaway on Dec. 20, 1955. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from North Georgia College (now the University of North Georgia), she had a 28-year career as an elementary school teacher in Forsyth County.

 She was county Teacher of the Year for 1982, and she retired from full-time teaching in 1992.

 After retiring from teaching, she went on to work for the Forsyth County Public Library.

She was known as “Bobbie” by loved ones.

Her husband; parents; siblings, Maurice Anderson, Merle Russell, Winston “Wink” Anderson, Mildred Anderson and David Anderson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three children, Vanessa Cowie (married to Ian), of Dawsonville, Brett Callaway (married to Dorothy Johnson), of Hendersonville, N.C., and Anton Callaway (married to Carol Hamilton), of Apex, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jessie, Leah, and Samantha Callaway and Natasha and Tristan (married to Emily Funk) Cowie; two sisters, Patsy Higgins and Mazie Songer; various other relatives also surive.  Services will be privately held.

Jackson Funeral Service and Crematory of Hendersonville, N.C.  was in charge of the arrangements.
