Winter weather is headed towards North Georgia and is expected in Dawson County late tonight. 

According to a release from the U.S. National Weather Service in Peachtree City, freezing rain is expected in Dawson, Lumpkin, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens and White Counties, at elevations above 2000 feet. A winter weather advisory will be in effect in those counties from midnight on Tuesday, 1Dec. 15, 2020 until noon on Wednesday.   

"Total ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible," the release said. "As a result, difficult travel conditions will be possible, especially on bridges and overpasses."

Dawson County residents are urged to visit the Facebook pages of the Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services and Dawson County Sheriff's Office for updates on the weather advisory.
