A Dawsonville church site is one of two locations being used as warming centers during a multi-day span of below-freezing temperatures in the area.
CrossBridge Community Church will serve as a warming center all day Tuesday, Jan. 21, through Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 8 a.m., according to an update from the local Loving Our Neighbors Facebook group.
CrossBridge is at 751 Ga. 53 East, next to The Gym and J & S Kitchen in Dawsonville.
Church members Daniel Pirkle and wife Jessica, who serves with Loving Our Neighbors, are organizing this warming center effort.
People with questions about the Dawsonville warming center can contact Daniel Pirkle at 678-283-7408.
The Amicalola Falls State Park Visitor Center is once again serving as a warming center.
The park’s visitor center is at 280 Amicalola Falls State Park Rd. This warming location will stay open until temperatures are above freezing, or likely Thursday, according to Andrea Roper with Amicalola Falls State Park.
On Tuesday, Dawson County Family Connection shared updated details about the Amicalola Falls warming center.
The visitors center is the first building on one’s right after entering the park, and people are being hosted in the center’s Arch Room.
The Arch Room is to the right of the front door on your left. Bathrooms are also in the building to the right of the visitor center.
Available amenities there will include:
- Warm indoor refuge
- Electricity
- Light food/snacks and beverages
- Bathrooms
Since the Amicalola warming center has limited bedding, people coming there are asked to bring their own bedding supplies. Cots are available, according to the Facebook post.
For more details on that warming center, people can call Andrea Roper at (706) 973-0788.
