A river flood warning has been issued for the Etowah River downstream of Ga. 53 near Dawsonville, according to a National Weather Service alert.
This warning will last until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Minor flooding is occurring in that area, according to the weather warning.
The river stage was measured at 14.1 feet at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Flood stage is considered 13 feet.
Another river flood warning was previously issued for Ga. 9 near the Etowah River in Dawson County, according to a National Weather Service alert.
That warning will last until 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Minor flooding was forecasted in that area. The Etowah River is expected to fall below flood stage later in the evening, the NWS alert stated.
Between 2-3 inches of rain have fallen in the region since early Tuesday morning.
“It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters,” the National Weather Service's flood safety webpage stated.

The NWS also issued a special weather statement for parts of Dawson County that will extend until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Scattered rain showers across higher elevations in northern Georgia are expected to change into snow showers after 7 p.m. as colder air moves into the area.
Snow showers are expected until about 4 a.m. Wednesday. Elevations above 1,500 feet could get a light dusting of up to half an inch of snow.
The NWS advised people to look out for slick spots on roads in a Facebook post just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Roadwork, outages

Maintenance roadwork along the Dawson County portion of Ga. 53 will not be done while it’s raining and the road is wet, according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Elizabeth Johnson.
If the roadway is still wet on Wednesday, then work would have to be postponed until the road surface is dry, Johnson added.
