With all of the damage reported so far across Dawson County and its neighbors, many people are wondering if they’re seeing the results of a tornado or tornadoes.

Two tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in neighboring Pickens County when severe storms moved through the area on July 20, according to National Weather Service survey results shared by the Pickens County government.

Survey results showed an EF-1 tornado touching down on Fitts Road in Jasper and an EF-0 tornado touching down on Carver Mill Road, near Hinton.

Much of the other areas in Pickens with structural damages and downed trees had been hit by strong straight-line winds.

Then in neighboring Forsyth County, officials with the Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency stated that an NWS assessment there saw peak winds of about 95 mph, but a tornado path was "not discernable" in the damage, according to reporting from DCN partner publication FCN.

Storm cleanup efforts in the Kelly Bridge Road area of Dawson County will be ongoing for the next two to three weeks.

Updates will be posted online as more information becomes available.
