One person dead after an overnight house fire in Dawson County
Fire

A person has died after an early-morning fire at a home in southern Dawson County Tuesday, according to Fire and Emergency Services Chief Troy Leist.

Emergency crews responded to a structure fire at a house off of Kelly Bridge Road at about 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 15.

First responders arrived to find the single-story, single-family home fully involved in flames and smoke. The initial dispatch relayed that a person may be trapped inside the burning structure.

Crews were unable to make an interior fire attack because of the blaze’s heavy involvement, response time due to the remote location, lack of hydrants in the area, and the home’s compromised structural integrity.

“Fire crews spent the rest of the morning extinguishing the fire and assisting with trying to locate any possible victims,” Leist said. “Unfortunately, the crew located one deceased person inside the structure.”

The fire is currently under investigation. As of this article, authorities are in the process of contacting the victim’s family, said Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson.

DCN will update this story once more information is able to be publicly released.
