Ground has officially been broken on the new sidewalk going in at the start of Allen Street off of Route 53 to the entrance of Main Street Park.

The 1,800-foot sidewalk was made into action after the Dawsonville City Council’s application to add the sidewalk was added to the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant for the 2022 fiscal year on Aug.16.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $147,244.50. The leftover funds from the 2021 fiscal year of $42,704.64 will be rolled over and combined with the sidewalk project. The balance will be paid out of SPLOST VI.

The sidewalk will be a continuation of the sidewalk alongside Route 53 that connects runs through Downtown Dawsonville, including the square.

There is no date set on when the project should be finished.
