A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Dawson County until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.
Dawson-area locations impacted include Amicalola Falls State Park, Len Foote Hike Inn, Fausett Lake and Nimblewill.
Between two and three inches of rain have fallen across areas in northern Georgia so far.
“Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the NWS flash flood warning stated.
Today’s rainfall could lead to flash flooding of small creeks and streams, streets and other poor drainage and low lying areas, the NWS warning stated.
Thunderstorm activity will continue across northern Georgia on Tuesday, according to a hazardous outlook report from the NWS.
Heavy rainfall will remain a concern with localized flash flooding possible, “especially in north Georgia,” the outlook stated.
A few storms may also produce strong wind gusts.
