Fire crews quell multi-structure fire in western Dawson County
Fire

A series of sirens blared through downtown Dawsonville just after noon Tuesday as firefighters headed in droves to a structure fire off of Steve Tate Highway in western Dawson County.

Responding crews found several trailers ablaze on a hunting property where nobody was residing at the time. There were no injuries, said Dawson County Fire Chief Troy Leist.

Leist added the structures were set up as “a camping type thing” and that only one of the trailers was set up as a residence, while the rest looked to be utility structures.

Four trailers and a shed were deemed a complete loss, and a third of an acre burned in the fire, Leist said.

Emergency services have not yet been able to contact the owner of the Steve Tate Highway property.

Two engines, two water tenders and two medical units from four Dawson County fire stations responded to the scene, said Leist, and personnel with the Big Canoe Fire Department responded with another engine.
