Dawson County commissioners will have a chance to hear more about the county’s forthcoming five-year comprehensive plan update at their next public meeting.

This story continues below.

The county’s draft comprehensive plan made the agenda for the board’s work session on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Dawson County and its Long Range Planning Committee have held previous public meetings and forums to discuss details of the 2023 plan update.

Dawson County conducted an online survey earlier this year to gather input on long-term planning from area residents. For the survey, 294 people responded, according to the draft plan in the Sept. 21 agenda packet.

Top concerns included preserving the area’s rural character and scenic corridors, as well as improving transportation infrastructure and checking ongoing growth and development.

Survey participants also voiced a need for more family housing, fewer unsafe homes and sustainable businesses, such as medical facilities.

The draft comprehensive plan included suggestions for high-priority road projects and how to finance those initiatives, strategies to help alleviate housing concerns and a variety of other recommendations for Dawson County.

DCN will continue following the county’s comprehensive plan throughout the update process.
