Dawson County has once again received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its exemplary work with its budget.
According to a release by the GFOA, receiving the budget award represents a significant achievement for the county.
“It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” the release said. “In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”
These nationally recognized guidelines are an assessment of how well an entity’s budget does in four categories. According to the release, these four categories dictate that the budget must serve as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. To receive the award, budget documents have to be rated “proficient” in all four of these categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those four categories.
When the county was granted the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the Dawson County Finance Department was presented with a certificate of recognition for budget presentation.
Over 1,700 participants are in the Budget Awards Program. A full list of the most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, is posted quarterly on the GFOA’s website.
