The number of people who were absent from school on Wednesday, Aug. 25 due to reported positive COVID-19 cases in the Dawson County school system was 78 people; 63 students and 15 faculty and staff members.

The Dawson County school began releasing a daily chart on its website accounting for the reported positive cases throughout the entire school system on Friday, Aug. 20.

The chart shows four less students throughout the school system from Monday, Aug. 23 and a stagnant number of faculty and staff absent.

Here are the big takeaways from Wednesday’s updated data:

  • Robinson Elementary only had 10 absent students, which is 12 less people than Monday and eight less than the day prior.

  • Numbers at Kilough Elementary are going down, but still 14 students are absent on Wednesday, the highest in the school system.

  • Four schools had increased absentees from Tuesday’s data (Riverview ES, Black’s Mill ES, Dawson Co. Middle School and Dawson Co. Junior High).

  • Two additional staff members were absent from school on Wednesday at Black’s Mill ES. BMES currently has the highest number of absent staff members with six.

Overall, 1.65 percent of students and 2.78 percent of staff members missed school on Tuesday with reported positive cases.

As the Dawson County school system reports its daily COVID-19 statistics, the DCN will continue to report the daily numbers.
