Updated Dawson County school system COVID-19 cases: Tuesday, Aug. 24

The number of reported positive COVID-19 cases in the Dawson County school system for Tuesday, Aug. 24 was 82 people; 67 students and 15 faculty and staff members.

The Dawson County school began releasing a daily chart on its website accounting for the reported positive cases throughout the entire school system on Friday, Aug. 20. 

The graphs show that four less students throughout the school system from Monday, Aug. 23 but two additional staff members reported positive cases. 

As of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, Robinson Elementary reported 18 students with positive cases, the most out of any school in the county, but four less than Monday. Kilough Elementary School reported 16 positive student cases, two more than yesterday. Dawson County High School reported 13 positive student cases, one less than yesterday. 

Student numbers at Dawson County Junior High (7), Dawson County Middle School (7), Blacks Mill Elementary School (5) and Riverview Elementary School (2) did not change from Monday’s report. 

The biggest change in faculty and staff numbers is two additional cases at Robinson Elementary. Kilough Elementary has one less staff reported positive than on Monday. Dawson County Junior High School and Dawson County Middle School remain the only two schools with no faculty and staff reported positives. 

Overall, 1.76 percent of students and 2.78 percent of staff members missed school on Tuesday with reported positive cases. 

As the Dawson County school system reports its daily COVID-19 statistics, the DCN will continue to report the daily numbers.
