Updated Dawson County school system COVID-19 cases: Thursday, Aug. 26

The number of people who were absent from school on Thursday, Aug. 26 due to reported positive COVID-19 cases in the Dawson County school system continues to go down from the beginning of the week. 

After having 85 students, staff and faculty absent from school on Monday, Aug. 23, the number Thursday was down to 76, with 62 students and 14 faculty and staff members absent from school.

The Dawson County school began releasing a daily chart on its website accounting for the reported positive cases throughout the entire school system on Friday, Aug. 20. 

Here are the big takeaways from Thursday’s updated data:  

  • Robinson Elementary continues to lower their COVID-19 cases. Only nine students were absent from school on Thursday with a reported positive COVID-19 case and zero faculty members. 22 students were absent on Monday this week.  

  • No school in the system increased their absences from Wednesday to Thursday, though some stayed constant from Wednesday’s numbers. 

  • Black’s Mill Elementary School has the most absences, with nine students and six faculty and staff members out from school on Thursday. 

Overall, 1.62 percent of students and 2.59 percent of staff members missed school on Thursday with reported positive cases. 

As the Dawson County school system reports its daily COVID-19 statistics, the DCN will continue to report the daily numbers.
