Sawnee Electric Foundation awards scholarships to 20 students

The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation recently awarded $5,000 scholarships to 20 local high school seniors, including three students from Dawson County High School.

According to a release, the scholarships are part of its goal to support local education in the areas that Sawnee EMC serves. 

“The Youth Scholarship Program is a shining example of what the Foundation and Sawnee EMC are all about; which is their commitment to being a partner and supporting in the various communities Sawnee EMC serves,” Sawnee EMC’s Vice President of Member Services Blake House said in the release. 

The 2021 scholarship recipients included three seniors from Dawson County High School: Annsley Anglin, Elizabeth Keys and Caleb Roberson. 

Other scholarship recipients included: 

  • Logan Carras, Sequoyah High School

  • Jasmine Song, Lambert High School

  • Christopher Kelly, West Forsyth High School

  • Emily Baldwin, Creekview High School

  • Kevin Maranto, West Forsyth High School

  • Colby Louise Hetzel, West Forsyth High School

  • Valerie Ponomarev, Chattahoochee High School

  • Grace Lim, Denmark High School

  • Lauren Stephens, North Forsyth High School 

  • Jeremy Brown, Creekview High School

  • Alana Murray, Alliance Academy

  • Vibha Mohan, South Forsyth High School

  • Kathleen Daly, Lambert High School 

  • Tharini Kavitha, South Forsyth High School

  • Kylissa Katalinich, Chattahoochee High School 

  • Katie Krznarich, Cambridge High School

  • Quinn Benson, Forsyth Central High School

According to the release, the foundation has awarded $852,500 in scholarships to 212 high school seniors in seven counties over the past 15 years.

“Supporting those in need in our communities, and helping those outstanding students continue their education is a key part of meeting the Foundation’s core mission,” Deborah Pelfrey, chairman of the Foundation’s board, said in the release.
