During the Jan. 10 meeting of the Dawson County Board of Education, board members officially elected their new chairperson and vice chairperson for 2023.

The board unanimously approved Karen Armstrong as the new chairperson and Nathan Ingram as the new vice chairperson. Both positions will be effective from Feb. 1, 2023 through Jan. 31, 2024.

Armstrong has served on the board since she was first elected to the District 3 seat in 2015, and most recently she has served as the vice chairperson since Feb. 1, 2022.

Ingram has served on the board since he was appointed by board members to fill the “at-large” seat vacated by Will Wade in March of 2020. He was re-elected to the position by voters in a special election in November of 2020 and has served on the board since then.

Both Armstrong and Ingram were re-elected to serve in their respective seats on the board for another four-year term during the recent November 2022 general election.

Beginning in February, Ingram will take over the vice-chair position from Armstrong, who will take over the chair position from the board’s current chair Doris Cook.
