This week, Amicalola EMC awarded $140,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors from several local counties during the annual Amicalola EMC youth awards banquet.

According to a press release by Amicalola EMC, the banquet was held on April 27 at Chattahoochee Technical College in Jasper and honored 140 high school seniors from Dawson, Cherokee, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens counties. Each senior received a $1000 scholarship.

About 400 seniors, parents, school administrators, Amicalola EMC staff members and board of director members were present at the banquet. The scholarships were all funded using unclaimed property, the release said, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 44-12-236.

“Amicalola EMC continues to support our youth, our schools and our communities,” the release said. “We’re extremely proud of the accomplishments of these high school students and wish them every success as they continue their education.”
