Jurors acquitted a Dawsonville man of several serious criminal charges on Jan. 25.

Carlos Montepeque Lopez was found not guilty on charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault, sexual battery and family violence battery.

Lopez was arrested at the end of December 2019 for incidents that allegedly happened earlier that year.

The above charges were from a re-indictment which was handed down in October 2021 after Lopez was previously indicted in March. The state had moved not to prosecute the first iteration of charges, which included a seventh count that was dropped in the new indictment. Documents from the first case number were merged into the updated case.
