The Dawson County Public Library will temporarily extend its hours for the months of September and October, allowing students in the school system more options to use the library to study and research.

According to a press release by the library, the decision to extend the hours is based on the start of school and the increased need that local students have for the resources the library offers.

“We realize that when school starts, student assignments and research projects may require easier access to information and to a fast internet/Wifi connection,” the release said. “Because of this, the Dawson County Library will be staying open one evening a week during the months of September and October to help meet these needs.”

Effective from Tuesday, Sept. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 25, the library’s hours will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Our hope is that we can offer some evening hours on a more permanent basis moving forward in the future,” the release added. “However, current staffing levels allow us to do so only on this temporary basis, as staff hours must be shifted in order to do so.”

The library’s normal schedule will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 26. While the library will not be able to do programming, it will be open for access to computers, homework help, notary services, faxing and copies.

“We look forward to serving Dawsonville and Dawson County students as they begin another school year,” the release said.
