The Dawson County Finance Department was recently awarded the Distinguished budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for its work on its budget, according to a release by the Dawson County Government.

To receive the award, which represents a significant achievement for any government entity, the finance department had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, the release said. These guidelines assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

“Budget documents must be rated ‘proficient’ in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award,” the release said.

When it was granted the Distinguished Budget Presentation award, the Dawson County Finance Department was also presented with a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation.

There are over 1,700 participants in the budget awards program, and the most recent budget award recipients, together with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on the Government Finance Officers Association website.

“Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America,” the release said.
