On Tuesday Oct. 25, the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for North Metro Atlanta video news company Neighborhood TV.

According to Neighborhood TV representative Carter Eddings, the goal of the business is to create localized video news clips.

“We want to deliver news and entertainment about Dawsonville, Cumming, Alpharetta… to the people in those areas,” Eddings said. “So when we hear news today that says ‘today in Atlanta’, ‘today in Douglasville’ or ‘today in Griffin’, we all live like on a different side of the planet; we don’t wanna have to worry about that stuff; we wanna know what’s happening in our backyard.”

The story continues below.

Company representative Rob Russo added that the business is technically launching in November, but that it has been covering some of what has happened in North Metro Atlanta in the past couple months. The format, he said, are short videos that can be played one after another to bring a number of stories to viewers.

“We’re all video; it’s all little stackable stuff kind of like Tik-Tok; all the stories are two or three minutes long,” Russo said. “You guys are a different world from Atlanta and you don’t really care about what happens in Atlanta; there’s a lot of really cool stuff that’s happening up here.”

Neighborhood TV is under Apollo Global Management, and its sister company is Cox Media Group. Because of this, Eddings said that WSB-TV will help Neighborhood TV with creating the videos.

After becoming ingrained in the North Metro Atlanta community, Russo said that Neighborhood TV plans to expand through the rest of Georgia, North and South Carolina and Florida over time.

Before cutting the ribbon, Dawson County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mandy Power welcomed Neighborhood TV to the community, adding that while Dawson County is close to Atlanta it is still certainly its own unique community.

“We are very close to Atlanta, we pride ourselves on that, but we’re so different,” Power said. “You can be at Hartsfield in 45 minutes to an hour, but we’re still a small rural community here in Dawson County.”
