On March 3, the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon cutting for the Dawson location of Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center, located at 145 Dawson Forest Road E Suite 200.
Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center is a service-oriented business, founded in 2001 by two physical therapists and an athletic trainer who wanted to create a patient-first business model to offer physical therapy and sports medicine services. With over a dozen locations throughout Georgia, the business offers athletic training, physical therapy, sports medicine, occupational therapy, ACL injury prevention, recovery, vestibular rehabilitation, industrial rehab initiation and return to sport programs.
The Dawson location opened in 2019 and quickly established itself as a leading physical therapy provider in the community. According to District Manager David Stanley, the goal with every patient who steps through the doors is to provide a personalized road to recovery from wherever he or she may be starting from.
"We’ve got five therapists here that push people in a new, better and different way than the traditional physical therapy and occupational therapy can,” Stanley said. “We want those patients who want to get better, we want those patients that might need a little nudging and encouragement and come to physical therapy because it’s their own passion and interest, not because they just have to be here because their physician told them to.”
Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center works closely with area physicians, and Stanley said that these partnerships truly benefit the patients because it allows the clinic and the physicians to refer patients back and forth to one another to get them the exact help that they need.
“We can see patients without a referral from a physician, we can do free consultations, we can set you up with physicians in the area to get you to the right person to get imaging or testing done,” Stanley said. “We’re great resources, all doctoral trained physical therapists, we are experts at what we do, we love what we do and we have a great working relationship with a lot of the physicians around town.”
Before the chamber’s ribbon cutting ceremony, Dawson County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mandy Power welcomed Stanley and his team to the community, adding that Stanley is a graduate of the 2020 Leadership Dawson class, so he understands the Dawson County community.
“It’s pretty incredible that we have one of our fellow Leadership Dawson graduates because you get it; going through that program you understand really how special our community is,” Power said. “We’re very happy to welcome a new business to our community, something that we need very much: physical therapy.”
Stanley added that, as a Leadership Dawson graduate, he’s gotten a chance to really know the community which has made opening a Dawson location of the business even more special to him.
“I think a lot of this community; I’ve met a lot of great friends, business owners and citizens since I’ve been in this area, especially going through the leadership class,” Stanley said. “That really helped me get some good footing in this community, see all the value it provides and more than anything the pride which people here have.”
Stanley said that, while the competition in the area of physical therapy may be abundant, the goal of Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center is to do its best to not just meet but to exceed expectations of what such a clinic should accomplish.
“We know the competition in this area is great, but we also know that new can be better; that’s our motto is ‘beyond better’,” Stanley said. “We’re proud to be here; we’re here to meet your needs — let us help you navigate through the sometimes very complicated medical landscape.”
