Amicalola EMC members who had electric service during the year 2002 are set to receive $2.6 million total in refunds, according to a press release by the organization.

“Amicalola EMC members are more than just consumers; they own the company,” the release said. “As a member-owner of a not-for-profit electric cooperative, each year members are assigned any monies collected in excess of operating costs. When financial conditions permit, the board authorizes a refund of these monies.”

According to the release, this year the board will allocate $2.6 million in refunds for members who had electric service in 2002. Capital credits have been issued to Amicalola EMC members for each year from 1940 to 2002, or 62 years total.

Individual refunds are based upon the amount of electricity purchased during the specified year, the release added. Those who were members in 2002 and still have active accounts can look for a credit in their September electric bills. Other refunds will be sent by check.
