United Way for Dawson County is closing in on its 2010 fundraising goal, but still needs community support over the next few days to reach $100,000.

Board member Kara Hewatt said the group needs to bring in another $3,000 before Monday to meet the campaign goal.

“Fundraising is difficult this year for so many organizations. Times are tough, but that also means there are more people that need help,” she said. “It’s amazing that we are as close as we are.”

Hewatt said volunteers will be on the phone this week, calling previous and potential donors to try to to collect the last few dollars.

The funds will then be allocated to 13 partner agencies that support various social service agencies serving Dawson County.

United Way supports organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Family Connection and the Dawson County Adult Learning Center.

Allocation will be distributed in the spring.
