Ghost, goblins, fairies and princesses of all ages are invited to fill their Halloween bags with sweets Oct. 31 at Rock Creek Park's inaugural Trunk or Treat.

Scheduled from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., the event is free to the public and offers a well-lit, secure environment for trick-or-treaters.

"We will designate a specific area in the park for the trunk-or-treat and have it sectioned off so that vehicle traffic will not be permitted, providing a traffic-free area for the children," said organizer Buffie Hamil.

In addition to clubs, organizations and individuals passing out candy and treats, the event will also feature booths offering crazy hair, face painting, crafts, concessions, hay rides and games, among others.

A small fee may be charged for some activities and concessions.

The event will be held rain or shine.

"If it rains, we'll move indoors to one of the gyms and just set up tables," Hamil said.

There is still time to reserve space at the event.

"We'd love to have more groups come out to make this event even bigger so that the kids leave with full candy bags and the parents feel like they don't have to make more stops on the way home," Hamil said.
