Two teens were seriously injured last week in a single vehicle wreck on Couch Road in eastern Dawson County.
The driver, 18-year-old Kayla Gourlay of Cumming, is facing numerous charges including DUI and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.
She is also charged with failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, seatbelt violations and purchasing/possession/manufacturing/distribution of a controlled substance-marijuana, according to Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone.
Gourlay was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital's trauma center in Atlanta after being completely ejected from the driver's seat. Her 17-year-old male front-seat passenger was also ejected in the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Neither was wearing seatbelts, Stone said.
Two other teens were in the backseat of the Ford Focus when Gourlay reportedly lost control in the curve north of Lake Drive, traveled down a steep embankment and overturned at least two times before coming to a stop in a creek.
"While negotiating a right hand curve, the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and too fast for the curve, causing her to lose control," Stone said.
The two backseat passengers were not injured in the crash.
Conditions of Gourley and the other injured passenger were not available as of press time.
