At the most recent Dawsonville city council meeting on Monday, Feb. 17, board members appointed two individuals to serve on the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), a representative board aimed at promoting a "pro-business climate and vision" for the city and expanding the economic base of the local community.
Marsha Martel, a recent resident of Dawsonville and previous board member of a town in New Hampshire, and Dwight Gilleland, prior DDA member and first president of the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, were appointed to serve 4-year terms on the authority.
Both Martel and Gilleland were interviewed by city council members and the chair of the DDA, Kevin Stone, and have expressed an interest in supporting the city's growth and image, City Human Resource Manager Donna Blanton said.
The appointment was unanimously approved by the council.
