The state’s current economic climate topped the list of concerns late last month when State Representative Amos Amerson sat down with constituents for breakfast.

Amerson invites the public to breakfast throughout the legislative session each year to learn about residents’ concerns and inform the public of state issues that affect them locally.

Amerson also spoke of local legislation he plans to present that would increase homestead exemptions for Dawson County residents over the age of 65.

He’s also working on legislation that would ban texting while driving.

Amerson said local legislation is the most important legislation he can introduce because “it’s the laws the public wants passed.”

About two dozen citizens attended Amerson’s informal breakfast Feb. 6 at Ryan’s in Dawsonville. It was the first Dawson County meeting he has had this session and was one of the largest crowds he’s seen in Dawson County.

Amerson’s next breakfast is at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Dahlonega. He will also be at the Wagon Wheel Feb. 27 at the same time.

He will be back at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Dawson County at 8:30 a.m. March 6.
