Georgia's Speaker of the House David Ralston, a republican from Blue Ridge, will be the featured guest at next week's joint meeting of the Dawson County Republican and Dawson County Tea parties.

He is expected to discuss legislation passed in the 2013 session, as well as what Georgians can expect to see when the 2014 session reconvenes in January.

"As part of Dawson County is in the Speaker's district, we are very excited to hear him," said Linda Umberger, chairwoman of the local GOP. "And that he is the Speaker of the Georgia House, we are extremely honored to have him speak to us."

Ralston was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1992 and served until 1998 when he won the Republican nomination for Attorney General of Georgia.

In 2002, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. He represents the 7th District, which includes Fannin and Gilmer counties and a portion of northern Dawson County.

Ralston was elected the 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives in 2010.

The meeting and holiday reception will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Lakeview Center on Dawson Forest Road, Dawsonville.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a new children's book to be donated to the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project. There will also be a pocket change fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the Dawson County Humane Society.
